Amanda Colgate – Self-Portrait

In art I started doing only pencil drawings, and often found myself depicting those who were close to me. So I found it a natural progression to try painting them. After experimenting with many mediums such as acrylic and oil paints I discovered oils provided an easy transition from the way I drew to the way I now paint. I have always been interested in portraiture, especially works of a realistic standard and am eager to build my skills in such. Though I have only recently started painting, I feel a lot more critical towards my work when there’s more knowledge of the subject’s nature and personality to play with. You’re challenged not only in the way you attempt to capture the image, but the way you percive the subject as a friend or a family member.
This particular work is one of my most recent, and my first painted self-portrait.
