Alexander Davern – Budge, Sugar, Sex, Magik
The living Tasmanian I chose to portray through acrylic and pencil on canvas is a local musician, Jason ‘Budge’ Wood. This stunning man has entertained many during his short time spent in Tasmania through his rock/pop band now known as Shoe. Budge is shown siphoning beer out of a beer bottle through a daisy chain of fluoro straws. The beer bottle is half submerged in a children’s play pool filled with water, where you may find Budge on a hot summer’s day. Behind this bass-slapping man is a collection of other characters assisting the summer party: a couple hugging, a rocker and a dark individual standing back watching the craziness unfold. Through this painting I wanted to invite the viewer into the colourful and chaotic life of Jason Wood.
