Self-Portrait, Where, acrylic paint on card

After moving to Tasmania three years ago I was inspired to really look at myself and where I wanted to go in life. Art school is where I wanted to be.
This self-portrait was inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s A Pair of Shoes. Shoes can tell such a brilliant story of who they belong to, what they do and where they go. I felt that my shoes would tell the story of this journey I’m on better than any likeness.
I’ve chosen six different pairs of shoes for my work. They are brought together with a constant background, horizon and scale.
Each pair tells its own story through type of shoe, its wear, its composition. A further glimpse at the tale is given by the titled plaques.
This is my story.
Where I’ve been, where I’m at and where I’m going.
