Chelsea Cooper – Dreams of Yesterday

Janette Heazlewood, 52 years old, of Somerset is my portrait subject. Janette is an artist who specialises in pottery, has run a successful studio at her home at Back Cam Road. She has been supportive of my art work and encourages me when I’ve struggled to follow through. She provides creative projects for me to pursue, such as pottery and mosaics at her home. Janette is a person many could learn from. She is selfless and devotes her time between friends, gardening and caring for her husband, and helps care for her brother who suffers from multiple sclerosis. She lives a full life despite hardships. Janette has immense personal strength, integrity and character. She recently lost her daughter in a tragic car accident and her mother through illness, all within close proximity. She still manages to pick herself up and get through the day, with her hope.
The reason I chose Janette is I wanted to capture her personality on the page. I hope I have captured her whimsical hope and need for happiness in her life that I often see on her face. I know it has given her joy to see the project developing.
