Hannah Gibb – Gazza

I am 17 years of age and have always loved expression through visual, dramatic and musical arts. In the past 12 months I have discovered the expressive challenge of portraiture. In this work I have chosen to portray one of my high school teachers – Gayle Williams – affectionately known as Gazza. Gazza is an exceptional, innovative, inspirational teacher/librarian at Scottsdale High School. She has had an enormous influence on my love of learning, debating and literacy.
I believe when creating a portrait the face is a significant element, as it emphasises identifying features, expression and personality of the subject. I have endeavoured to capture the expression of delight and encouragement that Gazza always showed when one of her students made a discovery through literature and learning.
