Conditions of entry

  1. The RACT Insurance Tasmanian Youth Portraiture Prize is open to Tasmanian artists aged 30 or under at the closing date of entry (i.e. as at 30 June 2010).
  2. The submitted work must be a titled portrait of a living Tasmanian.
  3. The submitted work can only consist of 2D medium/s – e.g: oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel, mixed media.
  4. All artworks entered by the artist must be the original work and concept of the artist.
  5. Each entry must be submitted using a colour digital photograph (min 300dpi) emailed to info@tasregionalarts.org.au. No original works will should be submitted for the initial pre-selection process. Accompanying this, the artist is to submit:
    • A completed entry form
    • The artist’s history (CV/resume) – maximum 2 pages
    • Artist statement – describing the reasons the portrait subject was chosen, in no more than 300 words. (See examples here.)
  6. All entries must be received by Tasmanian Regional Arts by Wednesday, 30 June 2010. Entries that are late, incomplete will be rejected.
  7. Submission of entry into this competition automatically constitutes the artist’s acceptance of all competition conditions. The judges’ decision will be final and correspondence will not be entered into.
  8. If selected to exhibit: Artworks must be ready to hang and suitably framed. A stretched canvas is considered framed. The finished artwork including the frame must be no larger than 150cm high x 150cm wide for touring purposes. Flat ‘D’ rings to be placed at back of artworks, 10cm from top of frame. The artists name and title of work should be fixed to the back of the artwork along with any specific handling instructions.
  9. Tasmanian Regional Arts reserves the right to vary these conditions at any time.
  10. The artist may enter several works but each entry must be accompanied by a separate entry form with all relevant support material. If the artist is successful in being selected to exhibit and if more than one work is submitted by the artist, only one of the works of the artist will be selected.
  11. No third party may enter any artwork/s on behalf of an artist.
  12. Works selected for exhibition will be chosen by a panel of judges appointed by RACT Insurance, Clemenger Tasmania, GEON and Tasmanian Regional Arts. Works to be exhibited will be selected from the colour photographs submitted.

  13. A panel of judges will also choose the prize-winning artwork from those works selected for exhibition.
  14. Artists who are selected to exhibit will allow their work to be reproduced for promotional and review purposes and/or the future promotion by Tasmanian Regional Arts, RACT Insurance, GEON and Clemenger Tasmania.
  15. The exhibitor will exercise all reasonable care in handling work submitted but will not be responsible for loss or damage to any work while in the custody of Tasmanian Regional Arts or its agents. Artists are advised to insure their work against loss or damage. The cost of freight and insurance for those works selected will be the responsibility of the artist. All freight costs between (to and from) Tasmanian Regional Arts and the artist will be the responsibility of the artist. Freight costs around Tasmania for selected artworks will be the responsibility of Tasmanian Regional Arts.
  16. The artworks selected for hanging at the exhibition must be received by Friday, 27 August at Tasmanian Regional Art – Latrobe, RACT branch Launceston or Clemenger Tasmania office in Hobart. Please look at the website for detailed maps on how to find these offices. After the close of the exhibition all works not sold can be collected within one (1) month of the tour's completion from the office where it was dropped unless arrangements have been made for return by pre-paid freight vouchers.
  17. Artists whose work will be hung will be notified by post. A complete list of finalists will also be published on this website.
  18. If the artist chooses to put the works exhibited up for sale, a sales handling fee of 10% (payable to Tasmanian Regional Arts) will be applied to any works sold during the period of the exhibition. The net sale proceeds will be sent by cheque to the relevant artists within thirty-five (35) days of the sale, provided all settlements have been made in accordance with the conditions of sale. Payment is made by cheque in Australian dollars.
  19. Tasmanian Regional Arts reserves the right to vary these conditions at any time.
