Kate Laycock – A Boy and his Dog

Archie runs back and forth, up and down the front steps. Levi sits looking at me, but at the same time tries to get Archie to sit still. Levi knows this is important and is excited by the idea of having his portrait painted.
Archie stays for a mornent then lunges forward with Levi attached.
Levi falls forward.
Then Levi chases Archie.
Archie chases Levi.
Then the cycle starts again. “Come on, Archie!”
And this was only the beginning of the photo-shoot.
Choosing the subject matter was an easy task. Trying to get a nine-year-old boy and a border collie dog (no matter what the age) to sit still for a photo was not.
But they did, long enough to get ‘the right shot’.
Levi smirks up at the camera, his arm tucked behind Archie, ready to grab him quickly if he moves. Archie leans forward staring directly at me. He’s eager to please, but eager to get going.
Capturing a moment like this only happens every now and again. Their personalities shine through. We see the ‘get up and go’ in their eyes, but also their intelligent, mature and gentle personalities.
This is Levi and Archie.
