Aaron Lyall – Distant through Psychological Barriers

This artwork is a look at identity and the ways in which we interact with each other on a psychological level. Why do we ‘click’ or ‘not click’ or just ‘drift apart’ with some people? Often we do not actually know or have a reason. It is purely based on feeling, instinct or intuition.
In many ways this work is a peaceful contemplation of the ‘personal’ and ‘universal’ rules of social interaction. As I reflect upon ‘you’ and ‘I’, relations and connections between ‘us’ and ‘others’ and how the mind, body and spirit manifests differently in each individual.
Distant through Psychological Barriers represents what can be described as a ‘gap’ or ‘hesitation’ or the ‘limbo’ of self-analysis when elements stand in the way of truly opening up and being comfortable. This can occur when we first try to build a connection with another person or loose parts of an existing connection or its entirety. It is this ‘distance’ between transforming what is felt into the physical that will be the ‘birth’ or ‘death’ of a relationship with someone.
