Shantelle Perry – Last Day in September

I chose myself as the subject for this painting.
I am a born and bred Tasmanian and I wanted to express the passion and enthusiasm I feel for the two things that are nearest and dearest to my heart: the Sydney Swans and painting.
Not everyone is a fan of football, so my objective was to relate how much excitement and energy some people possess for the game. I wanted my painting to represent the level of commitment and passion the crowd and the people that support the players have, how much colour and animation there is in the game of football without it necessarily being about the players on the field.
Some people only see AFL fans as hero worshipers of people who can kick a ball around a field so I wanted to defend the fans by showing sometimes it’s more about the atmosphere of the game and the people around you than the players.
